I was browsing Deviant Art again and feeling inadequate when the thought popped into my head that wouldn’t it be nice if there were an online group for people who wish they were still in art school. I don’t hang out with other artists anymore so my drawing has really fallen off the wagon. And it would be great if someone would hand out weekly art assignments and then we get together online and critique each other’s work.
Well, if you can imagine it, then its already on the internet. I found the weekly assignments. I’m gonna try it out and see how it works.
And today I was looking up how to replace the caulk on my bathtub when I stumbled upon the HGTV dream house. I’ve entered their sweepstakes before. its quite the sweet deal. You could win this mansion, an SUV and $500,000. Unfortunately I don’t usually like their houses. They are too big and too nice. But its still totally worth it to enter, cuz you can opt to take $1,000,000 instead of the house, and you still get the $500,000 and the car!
Anyway, this year’s house is in Charleston SC and it’s a quite reasonable size. It inspired me to work on my dream house.
This is probably the 58th version. I’ve been working on the floor plan for years. I want a small, efficient layout with heated floors, a sun room for passive solar heat, and a library tower for Knick. Outside it will have a green house with wood-fired hot tub, gardens, and an art studio / guest house. I want the kitchen sink as close to the shower as possible so the hot water doesn’t have to travel very far. But with the heated floors that may not be as much of an issue as I think it is. Let me know if you have any awesome ideas! I’m kinda stuck on this and similar floor plans.
And I want to do post and beam / timber framing with hay bail walls covered in plaster, like this low-impact home. ^_^

Pick up a copy of “The Not so big house” by Sarah Susanka for good ideas on small efficient layouts
